Advantages of Centrifugal Sieves in Starch Processing

The centrifugal sieve—also known as the horizontal centrifugal sieve—is a common piece of equipment in the field of starch processing. Its primary function is pulp-residue separation, making it suitable for processing a wide variety of starch-bearing raw materials, including corn, wheat, potatoes, cassava, canna, and kudzu root.

Advantage 1: High Screening Efficiency for Starch and Fiber
Centrifugal sieves demonstrate distinct advantages in terms of both screening and separation efficiency. By harnessing the powerful centrifugal force generated through high-speed rotation, the sieve effectively separates starch granules from fibrous impurities within the starch slurry.

 

Advantage 2: Superior Screening Performance
Centrifugal sieves deliver outstanding results in terms of screening quality. In the starch screening process, a system typically comprises 4 to 5 stages of centrifugal sieves; as the raw slurry passes through these multiple filtration stages, fibrous impurities are effectively removed from the starch liquid. Furthermore, some centrifugal sieves are equipped with automated control systems that enable automatic feeding and residue discharge, thereby ensuring the consistency and stability of the starch screening process.

 

Advantage 3: Increased Starch Yield
The starch screening process is a critical stage directly influencing the final starch yield. Centrifugal sieves play a pivotal role in this regard by minimizing starch loss and boosting overall yield. Starch centrifugal sieve systems are typically configured with four or five stages, wherein the screen mesh surfaces of each basket feature varying degrees of fineness—commonly 80μm, 100μm, 100μm, and 120μm. The fibers separated at each stage are directed to the subsequent stage for further screening. In the final stage, fresh water is introduced to create a counter-current washing effect; this minimizes starch loss within the residual pulp (residue) and ensures optimal screening performance.

Centrifugal sieves are particularly well-suited to the demands of large-scale, automated production environments. They facilitate continuous feeding and discharge, allowing for seamless integration with other starch processing machinery to form a fully automated production line.
