How to Process Sweet Potato Starch with Sweet Potato Starch Processing Equipment

After years of development, sweet potato starch processing technology has evolved from traditional purely manual methods to today’s mechanized processes. However, different processing needs of different investors require different sweet potato starch production and processing equipment and different starch processing technologies.

I. Semi-Automatic Sweet Potato Starch Processing Technology

The sweet potato starch production and processing equipment used in semi-automatic sweet potato starch processing generally includes cleaning equipment, crushing equipment, and drying equipment, while other parts are operated manually.

Semi-automatic sweet potato starch production and processing equipment typically uses dry sieves, cage washers, pulp-residue separators, and other supporting machines. Dry sieves and cage washers are used to clean the sweet potato raw materials and remove impurities.  The cleaned materials are then fed into a pulp-residue separator for crushing, filtering, and residue removal to obtain starch milk. The starch milk is then allowed to settle for a long time, and the resulting solid is filtered to remove water before being transported to drying equipment for drying. Of course, some investors may use a rasping machine instead of a pulp-residue separator, and the starch slurry is then filtered through a filter cloth before being transported to a sedimentation tank; some investors may use natural sun drying instead of drying equipment.

This semi-automatic sweet potato starch processing technology has low investment costs and requires a small production area, but it is susceptible to environmental factors and is time-consuming and labor-intensive.

II. Fully Automatic Sweet Potato Starch Processing Technology

Fully automatic sweet potato starch processing technology refers to the use of a complete set of sweet potato starch production line processing equipment for starch production operations. The entire process is controlled by a PLC automatic control system, which controls the sweet potato starch production line processing equipment for cleaning, crushing, residue removal, purification, dewatering, and drying.

Fully automatic sweet potato starch processing equipment generally includes dry sieves, cage washers, cutting machines, rasping machines, centrifugal screens, fine residue screens, hydrocyclones, vacuum dewatering machines, and airflow dryers. After removing impurities from the raw materials using dry sieving and a cage washing machine, the clean raw materials are transported to a cutting machine and a grinding machine for grinding and crushing, resulting in starch slurry. Centrifugal screens and fine residue screens then remove the fiber components (potato residue).  The slurry is then processed through a hydrocyclone and a vacuum dewatering machine to improve purity and remove water, before being transported to an air dryer for drying.

The automated sweet potato starch production line equipment requires low labor input, guarantees both starch quality and yield, and, despite higher initial investment, offers high economic returns and a quick return on investment.

With technological advancements, semi-automatic sweet potato starch processing technology will gradually be phased out, and high-yield, high-quality fully automatic sweet potato starch production line equipment will become the primary choice for investors.
